Tasty Tuesdays- Cinnamon Rolls
My mother makes the world's most delicious cinnamon rolls. It is a known fact. She also makes the world's best chocolate chip cookies but alas, that is for another post. We used to beg her to make these for us.
1 package of active dry yeast (1 Tablespoon)
1/2 cup warm water (105 - 115 degrees)
1/2 cup lukewarm milk (scalded then cooled) Side note: The first time I was making these after I married by husband he freaked out when I turned the milk up that high on the stove. :)
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening or butter
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 to 4 cups all purpose flour. Put 1/2 of the flour in bowl, pour in liquids, sugar, shortening, salt, eggs, beat until smooth. Mix in rest of the flour until dough is easy to handle. Turn dough to lightly floured surface, knead till smooth for about 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turn greased side up, cover and let rise until dough doubles in size. Shape, let rise. Then roll your dough out flat. Spread butter (come on use the good stuff!) on the dough and the sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top. Roll the dough up and then cut into slices. Place on a greased baking sheet at bake at 350 degrees until the tops start to brown ever so slightly. Usually about 10ish minutes but it depends on the size of your sweet rolls.
Frost if you so desire and devour!
After kneading, dough can be covered and refrigerated no more than 4 days.
