I didn’t grow up on green bean casserole. I can’t remember my mom making it once. The funny thing is, my husband says he doesn’t remember eating it as a child either, so we are not sure why it became part of the holiday routine for us. I guess we just like it. Although, once when I was making it, I was very distracted and I put vanilla in instead of soy sauce. Word to the wise, that does NOT taste good. Use the soy sauce. It’s MUCH better. 🙂
2 cans of green beans drained (You can use fresh, you need about 4 cups cooked. I just don’t have the time in my life to use fresh very often)
1 can cream of mushroom
1/2 C. milk
1 teaspoon of soy sauce
1.5 C of fried onions
salt and pepper to taste
Mix the green beans, cream of mushroom, milk, soy sauce and one cup of fried onions together. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Sprinkle the rest of the onions on top and bake for five more minutes or until the onions on top are a golden brown.
