When I think waffles, I usually think of sweet syrup, powdered sugar and maybe strawberries. That is, until I had my first savory waffle. Usually made with ingredients such as cheese and onions, savory waffles make the waffle the experience instead of the toppings. This savory waffle is my absolute favorite version because it incorporates two of my favorite things. Cheese and bacon.
These waffles are a little bit of work, but worth it in the end. I think I need waffles now.
You will need:
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons pepper
- 3 eggs
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- Just shy of 2 cups of milk, plus 2 tablespoons of vinegar (Or you could use 2 cups of buttermilk, but let's face it, I NEVER have that on hand.)
- 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled (8 slices? Let's face it, I am going to use the whole package)
- 1 cup Colby Jack Cheese, shredded
- 3 green onions, diced
