- 1½ cups buttermilk
- dill pickle chips for frying
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- 1½ cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- oil for frying
Add the buttermilk and hot sauce to a shallow dish, Place the pickles in the dish in one layer, making sure to coat both sides. I like to use a cake pan so I have lots of room for pickles. Cover the dish and put in the fridge for 20 minutes. While your pickles are resting, combine the rest of the ingredients except the frying oil in a bowl. Stir together.
After 20 minutes, pull the pickles from the buttermilk and coat in the flour mixture, making sure to coat both sides. Return the pickles to the buttermilk and then coat in the flour mixture once more. Yes, do this step twice. Allow your pickles to rest for about 10 minutes. Fry in heated oil until crispy on both sides. There isn't really a time frame since pickles vary so much in size, just watch until the pickles are a nice brown.
