Shortly after we saw the movie Coco for the first time, we made these DIY Tissue Paper Marigolds. I had made these flowers for years always in pinks and purples but it was when I made them in yellow and gold for the first time that I truly appreciated how beautiful they are. I keep a vase of them in my house all year round to appreciate the beauty in life and the beauty of our family that has gone on before.
DIY Tissue Paper Marigolds
You will need:
- a large piece of orange tissue paper
- a large piece of yellow tissue paper
- scissors
- a green pipe cleaner
Step 1. Place the orange tissue paper on top of the yellow. Cut both pieces of tissue paper in half longways.
Step 2. Place once stack on top of the other. So that the colors are layered every other.
Step 3. Cut the tissue paper stack in half longways again.
Step 4. Layer the two stacks on top of each other.
Step 5. Fanfold your stack of tissue paper. First, fold it in an inch one way and then fold it back on itself the other way.
Step 6. Wrap a pipe cleaner tightly around the center of your fan-folded tissue paper.
Step 7. Round the edges of your fan and then pull the edges out slowly.
Step 8. Pull the layers of tissue apart very gently and fluff until you have a full blossom!

I made this with one of my son yesterday, for Mother’s Day. since he is a teen-aged boy, it was like pulling tooth to get him to do this with me. I had to pull out the old guilt card, ‘It’s mother’s Day, my day…”
Thank you for sharing these beautiful flowers for a mom like me to make with my son.
