Housewife Eclectic: DIY Peg Nativity

If you are looking for a great craft to make with your kids this holiday season, look no further than this Easy DIY Peg Nativity. It is really easy to make and customize. It does need hot glue, so parental supervision for younger children is necessary but overall, they can pretty much make this cute nativity all on their own!

Shepherds

You will need:

  • Peg people in different sizes
  • felt in different shades of brown
  • pipe cleaners
  • trim
  • hot glueHousewife Eclectic: DIY Peg NativityFor the shepherds, I used pegs in three different sizes. You can use the all the same size, but I liked the height variety.

Cut out two strips, in two different colors of brown. They need to be about two inches wide (or the width of your particular peg) and four inches long. Add a vertical line of glue on the body of your shepherd, attach the edge of the felt to that line. Continuing gluing, every quarter of an inch or so and wrapping the felt around the body until you have used up all of the felt.

For the scarf around the head, add a dab of glue in the center of your piece of felt and attach it to the back of the Shepherd’s head.

At the very top of the heads, add a circle of glue and then add ribbon to be a crown. If you want it to look more crown-like, you can cut the edge of your ribbon with pinking shears before attaching to the wiseman.

Dress Mary and Joseph the same way you dressed the shepherds, with felt wrapped around the body and then a cloak wrapped around their head. For Mary I liked to use lighter colors, like blue and white, to help her stand out a little bit. For Joseph, I used green and yellow to make him look different than the shepherds.

For the baby Jesus, swaddle him by placing his head in one corner of a white square. Take the left corner and wrap it around his body and glue. Then take the right corner and wrap it around his body and glue. Then bring up the bottom corner and glue that as well.
