Easy Patriotic Baby Bows

June 25, 2014 by Wifeeclectic 18 Comments

The supplies used in this tutorial are courtesy of the Ribbon Retreat.

The Fourth of July is easily my favorite holiday. Barbecues, parades, fireworks and family. The best combination I can think of. I usually dress my kids up in full patriotic colors for the holiday and with a new baby, I knew I needed some new baby bows in red, white and blue.

These bows are easy to make, and they stay put. They will stay in my newborn’s fine hair and they still look great clipped into the pony tail of my 5-year-old.

 You will need:

  • 3/8 Grosgrain Ribbon in Patriotic Colors (Check out the red, white and blue solids, red and blue polka dots and the patriotic stripe)
  • Fray Check
  • Alligator Clips
  • Hot Glue
  • Silly Grips to make the clips “No-Slip”

You can use any combination of ribbon colors for these bows. Try using one red, one white and one blue, or two blue polka dots strands and one white. There are a ton of cute possibilities that are very patriotic. With whatever colors you decide, cut 3 4-inch strips of ribbon and fray check all of the ribbon ends.

Tie a knot in the middle of the ribbon you want to be the center of the bow.

Loop the other two pieces into circles, slightly overlapping the ends. Hot glue them together.

Squish the loops in the center, secure with a little dab of hot glue.

Take the two squished circles and overlap into a small X. Hot glue them together. Wrap the knotted piece of ribbon around the ribbon x and hot glue in the back.

Cover an alligator clip with ribbon.

Hot glue the bow to the top of the clip and add a silly grip to the inside top of the clip. These grips are so fantastic they will hold bows in my 5 week-old’s hair just fine.

I absolutely can’t wait to dress my newborn up for her first Fourth of July and these bows are perfect finishing touch!

Well you made that look easy enough. I think they would also be great as headband accessories.
