Fall Leaf Garland

November 6, 2017 by Wifeeclectic 1 Comment

Fall Leaf Garland

Halloween has gone and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I love taking the time to decorate for Thanksgiving separately from Halloween or Christmas, it helps keep the holiday from getting lost in the shuffle. This Fall Leaf Garland is so easy to make and would be fun to make with your kids. You can simply paint each leaf a single color or for a slightly more complicated approach, do the multiple colors like this one in the photos. You only need a few supplies which makes it easy to get started!

Fall Leaf Garland : Wood Leaf Cutouts and Twine

You will need:

  • Fall Leaf Cutouts (I used these from Oriental Trading)
  • Twine
  • Paint in red, yellow, orange and brown
  • a drill or way to poke a hole through the leaves
  • paint brushes

Fall Leaf Garland : Drill and Wood Leaf Cutouts

Drill a hole at the base of the leaf stem. You want the hole to be on the leaf itself and not the stem, but very close to it. Use a small drill bit, I like use a drill bit just big enough to slide a yarn needle through.

After you have drilled a hole in each of the leaves, paint them. Use orange, yellow, red and brown paint for the base of the leaves and then paint on top of each leaf with another color to give it more depth.

Make sure to paint the back of the leaves as well. I painted all of mine brown, but you could do the same color as the front if you wanted to.

When your leaves are completely dry, measure your mantel or wherever you are going to hang your banner and then cut a length of twine that is a few inches longer that that. Thread your twine onto a yarn needle and then use the yarn needle to thread the twine through each of the leaves.

The yard should be just tight enough in the leaves that they will stay wherever you slide them. If they don’t, make sure to put a knot beside each leaf after you get them where you want them. Hang the banner on your mantel or wall and slide the leaves around until they are where you want them and you have an easy and cute Fall Leaf Garland.
