Game Center Play Kitchen

July 20, 2016 by Wifeeclectic 20 Comments

When my older daughter was little, I really wanted a play kitchen for her. We didn’t have much space in our tiny townhouse and so I knew a full sized play kitchen wouldn’t work. We also didn’t have much disposable income. When I walked passed this game center at a thrift store, it was marked $3 and since it was half off day, it was only $1.50 . I knew it was a match made in heaven and the idea for this little kitchen was born!
You will need:
  • A game center
  • a sander
  • paint (a color of your choice and black and gray)
  • 4 -inch wooden plaques
  • wooden knobs
  • gray vinyl
  • wood glue
  • a small piece of fabric
  • Needle and thread

When you look for a game center, it doesn’t matter if it has any of the pieces, but it would be nice if it had the bottom tray to be used a cookie sheet for the oven.

Give the game center a good sanding. I sanded mine with a power sander and it roughed up and ready to go in about 15 minutes. Paint the entire game center in a color of your choice. I used a nice quality paint for the outside but just an acrylic for the cookie sheet.

Allow the game center to dry over night. Paint the wooden plaques and the knobs black.

Hem the bottom and sides of the front “door” to the oven. Hem the top and slightly gather. Glue the fabric under the front lip of the game center.

Cut asterisks out of gray vinyl and adhere them to the wooden plaques. Use the wood glue to glue the plaques and the knobs to the top of the game center. Paint the bottom tray a gray to be the cookie sheet.

My absolute favorite thing about this kitchen is that everything stores inside on the cookie sheet!

I love this! Your creativity is incredible. Such a perfect play area especially for those with a space crunch and no room for large kitchen sets!

This is so creative! We were given a huge play kitchen, but honestly I like this one much better. The commercially-manufactured ones are so BIG! We live in a townhome too and don't really have room for it.

What a creative idea! I love when I come across something like this in a thrift store and can see the potential in the item. That's the kind of toy a child loves because their mom made it!
