Last-Minute, No-Yeast Breadsticks

One of the worst feelings is feeling like you should have bread as a side for your meal and realizing you a) don’t have time to prepare the bread, or b) no yeast. It happens to me all the time. Thankfully there’s a quick solution: Last-Minute, No-Yeast Breadsticks.

No Yeast Breadsticks Recipe

This is not a new concept, but one of those recipes you just need to have in your cooking arsenal.

INGREDIENTS
1 1/4 cup flour (for healthier alternative, do 1 cup flour, 1/4 cup wheat flour)
2 tsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cup milk
3 Tbsp butter, melted
garlic salt
Italian seasoning

DIRECTIONS

Step 1: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

Step 2: Slowly add milk and use your hands to mix in the milk to create a dough.

Step 3: Knead the dough a few times on a floured countertop (be sure it’s clean!)

Step 4. Use a rolling pin to stretch the dough into a rectangle about 5″ x 9″.

Step. 5 Slice into breadsticks. This recipe makes about 10-12 depending on breadstick width.

Step. 6 Add half the melted butter to the bottom of the 9×13 glass baking dish. Roll the breadsticks in the butter.

Step. 7 Use a pastry brush to add more butter on top (be sure to reserve some butter for when the breadsticks are finished).

Step 8.  Bake at 450 for about 15 minutes, or until the breadsticks are done.

Step 9. Immediately coat the breadsticks with the remaining butter. Sprinkle on garlic salt and Italian seasonings.

These breadsticks are a good side to Italian dishes. While not as full-bodied as breadsticks with yeast, they’re still satisfying, particularly if you’re a bread junkie like my family.

That is great. Some time back my husband figured out how to make biscuits without milk or eggs. I like things like that because we can make bread last minute without a trip to the store.

Love the idea of these. I mean yeast has a time and place, but sometimes I want to make things without it.

Great idea. I make my own bread from scratch, but it takes four hours. I can't tell you the number of times my meal plans have come unstuck because we have run out of bread with insufficient time to make more!

It's been a long time since the last time I made bread, maybe it's because the process to make it takes quite sometimes. This recipe a shortcut which is great. I will try this. It's simple and sounds delicious.

Really quick, good breadsticks! After I cut dough into breadsticks, I folded each in half (Lengthwise) and rolled them into round breadstick shapes (did take a little longer to bake). Turned out great! Definitely a “keeper” recipe. Thanks! Thanks
