Love You to the Tippy Toes: A Valentine’s Craft to do with Kids

February 11, 2013 by Wifeeclectic 1 Comment

I love you to the tippy toes, is something my mom has said to me ever since I was a little kid. I think her mother may have even said it to her. It is a simple sentence that brings back a lot of happy childhood memories and it is something I now say to my own little girl.

This Valentine’s Day, I wanted to create something simple for my mom that references all of those happy memories. Here is what I came up with.

You will need:
a canvas
paint in two different colors

I debated long about whether I should paint the canvas pink and do white foot prints or not paint the canvas and do pink foot prints. I settled on painting the canvas pink, because I wanted the feet to really stand out. Before I started painting I laid down a large plastic drop cloth that I found at the dollar store. It helped keep everything contained once I started painting my 4-year-old’s feet.

After the canvas dried, I painted my little girls feet with a sponge brush. The paint on the feet dries very quickly, so you don’t have much time between painting their feet and having them step on the canvas. I lifted her up, holding her underneath her arms, had her put her feet close together and then let her step on the canvas.

The first try, was a complete failure. I ended up painting over the feet with pink paint and trying again. The second time went much better.
After the feet dried, I added the words around them. I went with simple writing the words with the paint brush instead of cutting out a stencil, since I wanted more of the cutesy little kid look.

I can honestly say, I think my mom is going to love her Valentine. What Valentine’s are you making this year?
