Printable Quiet Book- Dress the Potato

September 16, 2016 by Wifeeclectic 29 Comments

Today I am sharing the eighth post in the Printable Quiet Book Series. This cute little potato is reminiscent of a favorite toy of my girls. They love dressing up the potato in all of their finery! It keeps them busy for hours!

From the first post: When our first daughter was little, I painstakingly made a felt quiet book. I spent hours cutting out pieces and hand embroidering, it took me months. My daughter loved it and played with it often, but I always wished it was easier to add pages to it. I wanted to add new pieces and new pages, but it seemed like a daunting task.

Our second daughter is just at the age now where I am wishing for a quiet book again. When I started saving ideas and thinking about what I wanted to do for her book, I realized that a printable quiet book would be so much easier. It would be perfect for people who don’t think of themselves as crafty and it would be easy to add more pages to if I wanted to later. So the printable quiet book was born.

Between my husband and I, we have finally completed the book and I am in love with it. There are paper dolls and play sets and all sort of amazing that doesn’t take more than some printing and cutting.

You will need:

  • The Printables at the end of this post
  • scissors
  • magnetic tape or velcro
  • a Laminator and Laminating sheets (I love my Scotch Laminator)

Print the pages in color and laminate the background page. Cut out each of the pieces and then laminate them as well. After they are laminated, cut them out again. I didn’t cut out the center of the glasses again, I thought it made them look more like real glasses. There are several ways you can make the accessories stick to the potato. You can add small squares of felt to the back of each accessory and several squares on the potato. You can also use velcro squares instead of felt. I prefer to use magnet tape on the accessorizes and then have the kids play with the book using a magnetic surface that can be placed under the background page.

Add this page to your quiet book, with the pieces.  You can glue a sandwich bag to the back of one of the pages to hold the pieces or you can add a small zipper pouch at this point in the book. I went with the pouch because the potato has so many pieces.

My oldest would love this and I think it could give me a couple minutes of peace. I'll have to give it a try, especially next time I have a phone call and need him to be busy playing.

That would be a great thing for a birthday party game. And you could judge the best "dressed" and give them a prize.
