Shortly after I had my first daughter, my best friend and I got together for a craft day. We wanted something that was affordable to make (because we were poor college students), easy to make in between holding an adorable baby and super cute to wear. We came up with these Scrabble Bracelets and still years later I love wearing it. It is a pretty easy DIY, but it does require power tools. Which wouldn’t scare me now, but at the time, using a drill seemed kind of terrifying.
For this project you will need:
- Scrabble Tiles (I picked up my game at a thrift store for a couple bucks)
- Scrapbook Paper
- Mod Podge
- Fishing line or other sturdy cord for stringing
- claps and a small bead for the end
Pick out the letters of the name you want on your bracelet. If you have a longer name you can probably get away with just using the letters of your name. If your name is shorter, like mine, you will need to pick random tiles to go between each letter. I am lucky enough that my husband’s name fits in between my name. So one side says my name and the other side says his.
Drill four holes into each Scrabble tile. I used the smallest drill bit my husband has which is a 1/16th bit. After you have your holes, on the back of each tile Mod Podge a small square of paper. After your squares are dry, use a pin to poke holes in the paper where you drilled your holes. Next thread your tiles with fishing line. I went over one tile and then under the next, so the fishing line shows up on the tiles with the scrapbook paper instead of the tiles that say my name.
When we finished stringing them, we put a small bead at the end to bring the ends together and then tied it onto the metal clasps. I put a small dab of Mod Podge onto the knots at the ends to help keep the bracelet together and 8 years later it is still holding strong after quite a bit of wear.
This would be a darling project for a girls night. I have found that thrift stores and yardsales are the best places to pick up cheap Scrabble tiles, but if all else fails I believe that craft stores sell them now too.
Whose name would you want on a bracelet?

Neato! The best part? I'm going to be in a Scrabble tournament the end of this month. Perfect. And way cute. Nice work.

I love it! I'm thinking the drill torture was totally worth it 🙂
