Have I ever mentioned that I am Norwegian? My grandma came to America from Norway after WWII and she brought with her all of the family recipes. I grew up on many of these recipes and didn’t realize that some people thought they were odd until I was in college. This was one dish that my grandma always made and now I fix it for my family.
Boil potatoes and broccoli (Not together) until soft
Cook bacon until desired crispness (My grandmother served this with salt pork instead of bacon)
Place the potatoes, broccoli and bacon on a plate together and drizzle (or in my case, drench) with white sauce.
White Sauce:
1/2 stick butter
2 heaping Tablespoons flour
Let these mix for a minute
Then add 1.5 cup milk
Let simmer until thick
Add salt and pepper to taste. (I like to add paprika)
I know it may seem weird, but, try it, you might just be converted….

Without the broccoli, this might make it to my table. Mark loves the white sauce like this.

I'm over half Norwegian! I remember my grandfather making something similar. Great recipe – can't wait to try it.
