This little friend came from a conversation I had with my best friend. We are both crazy Whovians and when she saw a little garden statue on another blog, she remarked that it kind of looked like a Dalek. It that moment, my dream of having a Dalek Garden statue was born. A little bit of planning and painting later and now I want a whole fleet of them. I need them to exterminate the weeds in my backyard. 😉 This cute little friend is perfect for the garden of the house and is really easy to make!
You will need:
- Two Terracotta Pots (You can make whatever size you want, just make sure you smaller one fits nicely on top of your larger one)
- Two Small Wood Pots (If you are making a large Dalek, you can use small Terracotta ones, since I made a medium sized one, I need smaller pots which I found in the craft wood)
- White Paint
- Blue Paint
- Black Paint
- Black Spray Paint
- Dalek Body Paint (Red, Blue, Gold, White)
- A circle stencil
- Craft Wire
- A Push Pin
- Hot Glue
- A Rubber Toy Popper like these
- Clear Spray Paint
That is a perfect gift for Dr. Who fans!!
This is one of the better Whovian crafts I've seen. Love it!
I've actually never seen Dr. Who! This seems like the perfect gift for a fan!
I've never seen it either but I love your project! Thanks so much for the tutorial
How fun! It'd make a great gift for my brother! I could definitely picture it in his yard.
that is a fun project although Im guessing I would need to explain what a dalek is to some people

I was lost about Whovians for a few seconds(I was thinking the Whos from the Grinch story) but then it clicked for me. He's a cute little fella, bright and cheery!
I love how that came out. I've been thinking of doing something like that over here, so this is inspiring me.
That looks like a fun project, but I will admit that I have no idea what a dalek is or really anything about Dr Who.
saw this on instagram. what is dr who? i keep seeing it bu have no idea
I had no idea what a Dalek was, and although I remember the old school Dr. Who – I did not get the connection with 'Whovians' – lol. Now, I am going to have to Google 'Dalek.'
So the first thing I did was google, Dalek. I'm feeling a little bit out of it! I have never seen a Dr. Who show. hmmm…. I should get more with it. Very clever garden art – I love it!
What an absolutely adorable DIY! My favorite has always been a Dalek 🙂
I have to admit I had know idea what a Dalek is. I read through your post further and realized it was a Dr. Who reference. I hear it's a really good show. Cool garden art!
Haha cute idea! Lovely.
I think this is so cute, and I may have to make one!
This is so cute! My little would love to make something like this with me!
I had no idea I wanted a dalek for the garden until this moment, it's fab!
I have to say I'm loving Missy – totally bonkers, even more so than John Sims's Master which is saying something. She's a real delight to watch.
The daleks are a classic though. I once damaged the back of my throat when I was about 7 and I had a sink plunger in my mouth out in the garden (being a dalek obviously!) and my brother hit it with a football. Could have been very nasty but luckily I just had a bit of a dent and a very sore throat for a few weeks. Moral is, a terracotta pot version is the best kind of dalek to have out in your garden!!
I have heard of Dr. Who, but don't know anything about it. This is a cute craft and would great in the garden.
I love finding fellow Whovians! Your dalek is adorable! I went a little crazy with our Doctor Who obsession and made a TARDIS door to our media room. 🙂

What a fun way to bring a little Doctor Who into the garden 🙂
