It seems like I am always using shortening. In my homemade frosting, my banana bread and other baked goods. Every time I use shortening, I feel like I spent five minutes scraping it out of the measuring cup and then another five minutes washing the measuring cup afterwards. It was enough to make me not want to bake.
I discovered an awesome trick while watching a friend bake that have saved me a ton of trouble. Before you measure your shortening, place a piece of plastic wrap in your measuring cup. Measure your shortening out and then remove the plastic wrap. Slide the shortening off your plastic wrap and into your mixing bowl. It both ensured all of your shortening made it into your recipe AND keeps you from having to scrub shortening off anything. The perfect combination.
How about you any easy cooking tips or tricks?

Hmmm. I'll have to try this. Hope you have a great weekend, Debra. My only tip this morning is: Let the dust accumulate on the furniture until it's really thick. Then, when you go to dust, it's a lot easier to see where you've dusted. 😉

We're trying to use zero plastic in our house, especially as July is ditch plastic month. I use butter as shortening and it comes wrapped in paper in 250/500g blocks. It makes it easy to estimate the grams to cut off or alternatively weigh cut pieces on the scales.
