Mickey Mouse Beignets

These delicious treats from New Orleans Square in Disneyland are a family favorite and one that we have made at home for years. Here is our fun and easy recipe that will take you back to the Happiest Place on Earth!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups lukewarm water
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1 envelop yeast
  • 2 eggs beaten slightly
  • 1 1/4 t. salt
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 7 cups flour
  • 1/4 C. Shortening
  • Pan with oil for frying
  • 2- 3 C. Powdered Sugar
  • Mickey Mouse Cookie Cutter

Instructions

  • Mix the sugar, water and yeast into a bowl and let sit for about 10 minutes.
  • In a different bowl, mix evaporated milk, eggs and salt together.
  • After the 10 minutes mix the egg mixture into the yeast mixture.
  • Add 3 cups of the flour and stir until mixed well.
  • Add the shortening, stirring constantly while you add the rest of the flour.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
  • Let your dough rise for at least 2 hours.
  • Roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and then cut into Mickey Mouse shapes with a cookie cutter.
  • Fry in oil heated to about 350 degrees until golden brown.
  • Flip the beignets often to make sure the color is even.
  • Drain the beignets for a few moments.
  • Add your powdered sugar to a brown lunch sack.
  • Then add the hot beignets to the sack, close and shake until beignets are covered in sugar.
