These delicious treats from New Orleans Square in Disneyland are a family favorite and one that we have made at home for years. Here is our fun and easy recipe that will take you back to the Happiest Place on Earth!
- 1.5 cups lukewarm water
- 1/2 C. sugar
- 1 envelop yeast
- 2 eggs beaten slightly
- 1 1/4 t. salt
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 7 cups flour
- 1/4 C. Shortening
- Pan with oil for frying
- 2- 3 C. Powdered Sugar
- Mickey Mouse Cookie Cutter
Mix the sugar, water and yeast into a bowl and let sit for about 10 minutes.
In a different bowl, mix evaporated milk, eggs and salt together.
After the 10 minutes mix the egg mixture into the yeast mixture.
Add 3 cups of the flour and stir until mixed well.
Add the shortening, stirring constantly while you add the rest of the flour.
Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth.
Let your dough rise for at least 2 hours.
Roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and then cut into Mickey Mouse shapes with a cookie cutter.
Fry in oil heated to about 350 degrees until golden brown.
Flip the beignets often to make sure the color is even.
Drain the beignets for a few moments.
Add your powdered sugar to a brown lunch sack.
Then add the hot beignets to the sack, close and shake until beignets are covered in sugar.
