11 Natural Tricks for Insomnia

Today’s post is sponsored by Natrol, but my love for their melatonin is all my own!

I am not a great sleeper. As a total night owl, sometimes I struggle to fall asleep until 3 or 4 in the morning every night, which ends up messing up the next day too. People are always suggesting sleeping pills to me, but I feel but better using natural ways to get to sleep. These are my favorite.

Meditation- Meditation has been shown to improve sleep cycles when used right before bed. Focusing on the positive and deep breathing can help clear your mind for rest.

Notebook- Often times people can't fall asleep because they have things they are thinking about. Keep a pad of paper next to your bed so you can jot down notes to yourself so you can let things go and sleep.

Stimulants- Avoid Caffeine  and nicotine before bed. They stimulate you and keep you awake longer.

Exercise- Add a 20 minute work out to your morning routine can actually make it easier for you to unwind at night.

Hot bath or shower- a hot bath can calm you down and get your body ready for sleep. Try an epsom salt bath with a touch of lavender essential oils to help with the calming effects.

Put away screens at least 30 minutes before bed- Staring at a phone will you are in bed can keep you up long after you have put the screen down. Turning off the blue light and allowing yourself to prepare for bed without a screen will help you fall asleep later.

Set the right temperature- Sleeping in a room that is too hot or too cold will make it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep. Try setting your thermostat around 65 degrees for optimal sleeping.

Get outside in the morning- Help your body's natural rhythm by getting sun during the day.

Stick to a schedule- It is better for your body to wake up and go to sleep at the same time every day. Even on those lazy Saturday mornings!

Try ear plugs and a sleep mask- block out the external stimulants that could be keeping you awake.

Melatonin- Melatonin, like Natrol Melatonin is a 100% drug free secret weapon when it comes to getting your body to recognize that it is time for sleep. Natrol Melatonin Fast Dissolve is 100% drug-free and non-habit forming. Supports an overall better sleep and helps regulate healthy sleeping patterns. It is 100% vegetarian and Natrol Melatonin Fast Dissolve tablets allows consumers to take anytime, anywhere with no water needed.

If you have trouble staying asleep, you might try Natrol Advanced Sleep Melatonin. It  is also a 100% drug-free sleep aid that helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep with a built in 2-layered time release that gives you an initial 5mg dosage to help you fall sleep and then releases the remaining 5mg dosage throughout your sleep to help you stay asleep.

Natrol Melatonin has made a HUGE difference in my quality of life. I have always struggled to sleep and I have even gotten my days and nights completely mixed up before. Natrol helped me right it. I definitely suffer from insomnia more times than not. I will have to try exercising before bed and maybe that will help.

I have never tried this type of melatonin but I have tried it in the past. Maybe I should give this one a try to see if it helps.

I have had insomnia since the 7th grade. All kinds of strategies in place... but essentially its all about just calming down the mind and these are great ideas to help in that process!

I have had trouble sleeping since menopause! It's a real thing. I have learned to have a cooling pillow, use a diffuser with lavender and to read a calming book. Those help me bed down quickly and for a good amount of sleep.

I've never had a problem sleeping, my body is both blessed and cursed with being constantly sleepy. I've heard many people talk about the great benefits of this natural melatonin and that it's a 'real miracle' in their lives.

I sometimes find it very hard to fall asleep. I usually put lavender oil in my diffuser and try to cut down on my screen time before bed to make things easier on me.

I'm a horrible sleeper. I have such trouble falling asleep and medication doesn't work for me either. I'm always envious of those who can go to bed and fall asleep and then wake up in the morning feeling refreshed.

My hubby has occasionally suffered from insomnia and it's been a horrible experience.
I think we never really thought too much about what we are doing throughout the day effects how well we sleep at night! I will have to pass these tips on to him.

I go through periods of insomnia, usually when all three of my kids are sleeping peacefully! I haven't heard of this, but often use epsom salts.

I am a chronic insomniac too. I go to bed around 2 am or so and it takes me forever to fall asleep. Melatonin does not work for me. I take Benadryl every night to help me stay sleeping.

I don't have insomnia, but I do have trouble falling asleep every now and then, especially when I'm overwhelmed with work. One of the things that seems to help me is having a white noise machine.

I will occasionally use Melatonin when I'm having trouble falling asleep but never this brand. I agree that sticking to a schedule also really helps! If I even fall asleep 30 minutes later than normal, I don't sleep as well!

I am the worst when it comes to sleep!!! I love sleep but my mind however does not! I will have to try melatonin.

I have trouble falling asleep too. It takes me a long time for my brain to unwind. I don't like to take medicine, not even OTC, but I have found that a glass of warm milk sometimes help.

I think these are such great tips! I think a big one for a lot of people is to stop drinking caffeine after a certain time and to stop with social media and watching TV, while in bed trying to fall asleep.
