1st Day of School Picture and Graduation Year Shirt

August 22, 2013 by Wifeeclectic 4 Comments

I can’t believe that summer is over. We have one more weekend and then it is back to school for us. Even though my husband is no longer a school teacher and he is not going back to school, this month has seemed busier than ever. Last year we started a picture tradition, and I am excited to continue it this year. I can’t believe how much bigger my little girl looks in just one year. I made a shirt that has her graduation year on it, and every year we will slip it on for a picture.
To Make the Graduation Shirt You Need:
An Adult Large Shirt
Freezer Paper
A Craft Cutter or Scissors
Paint
A foam brush
Cut the year your child is graduating out of freezer paper. I used my craft machine, but you can print letters as a template and then use scissors to cut them out.

Iron the freezer paper stencil onto your shirt. Make sure to spend a little extra time on the edges.

Using acrylic paint and a foam brush, blot paint over the numbers. Allow it to dry and then do one more coat. Wait until the paint is completely dry and then peel off the stencil.

Dress your child in the shirt. It will be very large, but it needs to be, so they can still wear it in high school. Use a small chalkboard or a sign to state what year they are going into in school. I like to add the date too, but that is up to you. Years from now when she is a senior in high school, I am going to make a collage with all of the pictures from her first days of school. It will be a great project, but I am still hoping that day doesn’t come for a long, long time.

Very cute idea! I like this so much more than the chalkboard idea I keep seeing.
