Americana Pin Wheel Wreath

I have probably said this before, but the 4th of July is easily my favorite holiday. Nothing else holds a candle (or firework) to it. This year we aren’t even into June yet and I have made two patriotic wreaths. This wreath is made simply with paper and hot glue and can be put together in a couple of hours.

The inspiration for this wreath came from this one by AllYou. I love the original but I simplified it the wreath to take much less time and paper and then styled it to leave a star cutout in the center. This project doesn’t need very many supplies, some you may even have on hand.

You will need:
12×12 patriotic paper
a wreath form
something to wrap the wreath in
star confetti
hot glue

The very first thing you are going to want to do is wrap your wreath. I wrapped mine in scraps of white fabric. Whatever scrapes you have lying around will do nicely. Cut the scrapes into strips and wrap around the form completely, securing with hot glue.

This wreath needs 10 pinwheels. Five large and five small. A large pin wheel needs 6 pieces of paper, cut into 4×6 rectangles. For the large one I just took a 12×12 piece of paper and cut it into 6 pieces, doing it this way means they aren’t exactly the size they are supposed to be but it used much less paper. The small pin wheels need 6 pieces cut into 3×6.

After you cut your individual pieces, you need to fold them back and forth like a paper fan. Make sure to fold the paper long ways.

After you fold all six pieces like a fan, glue the edges together with hot glue. It will look like the little volcano in the picture below. To make your pinwheels you need to push the center together and glue. I have found this is easiest by using a small square of paper behind the pinwheel. Push the centers down and together and then stabilize by glue the center to the square paper behind the pin wheel. Glue the confetti star to the center and then repeat for the rest of the pin wheels.

When you have your 10 large pin wheels you can glue them to the wreath form. Arrange the pinwheels around the form until you can see the star cutout in the center and then glue the pin wheels down. Glue the small pinwheels over the area where each of the large pinwheels meet, to give it a more complete and full look.

There you have it a simple, fun paper wreath for the holiday. Won’t lie, I am kind of thrilled with it.
