With so many friends and sisters-in-law pregnant right now, I have baby showers on the brain. I love creating decor that is not only cute, but will serve as a baby gift after the shower is over. My go-to decor is diaper cakes and roses, but I wanted to create something that was different and just as helpful for a new mom. These bottle flowers are so easy to make and bottles are a newborn essential, so you are helping the expectant mom cross something off her registry.
How to Make the Bottle Flowers
You will need:
- Tissue Paper
- Scissors
- Bottles
- Baker’s twine
Take a stack of tissue paper rectangles. Mine are about 7-inches tall and there are 12 sheets of tissue paper.
Fold the tissue paper together, accordion style. On each fold line, snip the tissue paper about an inch in toward the center. Do this on both sides of the folds.
While the tissue paper is still folded (accordion style), tie a piece of baker’s twine around the middle. You want to leave the twine extra long so you can tie the ends around the bottle.
Hold the tissue paper accordion perpendicular to the bottle and tie it onto the bottle using the long ends you left with the baker’s twine. Repeat all the steps again (creating another accordion), and tie the other tissue paper accordion to the opposite side of the bottle. Pull the pieces of tissue gently apart, fluffing up the flower as you go. The more you separate the tissue sheets, the fuller your flower is going to look.
You will end up with a full, fluffy looking flower with the bottle as the pollen in the middle.
How to Make a Bottle Rose
The roses are even easier to make and require even less time.
You will need:
- A bottle
- Tissue paper rectangles
- Rubber bands
- Baker’s twine
Take a rectangle of tissue paper and fold two of the edges together so they make a point (like the first step of making a paper airplane). Wrap the tissue paper around your bottle with the point side up (and above the top of the bottle) and use a rubber band to secure it.
Continue adding more layers of pointed tissues, spacing them around the bottle.
As you get more layers, you can start to pull them down more so that they look more like petals with the bottle as the center.
Both flowers are so easy to make and they can be customized to fit any baby shower theme, just change up the color or print of the tissue paper and you have a completely different feel.
If you are looking for another great baby shower gift, we just bought the New Diaper Genie Complete and it is fantastic for new moms. My favorite part is the foot pedal, so there is no need to touch the pail with your hands at all when you are throwing away a diaper. Diaper Genie features a 7-layer bag to completely lock away orders, and can hold up to 270 dirty diapers.
Which of the flowers would you make using Playtex Ventaire?
