The last couple of weeks in our house has read a little bit like the popular children’s book. If you give Debra a new mattress, she is going to want a new comforter to go with it. Give her the new comforter and then she is going to want new sheets. Buy her the sheets and then she is going to want to DIY the pillowcases too just for fun.
After sleeping on a second hand mattress for the first 11 years of our marriage we finally have a brand newavailable exclusively at Sam’s Cluband all I can say, is what the heck took us so long? I don’t think we had any idea just how bad we were sleeping until we started sleeping well. One of the things my husband always jokes about when it comes to our bed is that 75% of the bed is mine and 25% is his. I made these pillows to illustrate that fact and they make me smile every time I make our bed. They are so easy to make and would be a fantastic wedding or anniversary gift. Find all of the instructions below.
DIY Funny His and Hers Pillows
You will need:
- a king size white pillow case
- a 18×18 white pillow
- black heat transfer
- an iron
- a way to cut the heat transfer (such as a cutting machine or a lot of patience and scissors)
If you have a cutting machine, simply type out the words His and Hers in your software and then size them how big you want them to be. I used the Font Arab Brushstroke Regular for my pillows but any easy to read, block font would work great for this project. My Hers design is 10.38 inches long and 4.09 inches tall. My His design is 5.50 inches long and 3.21 inches high. As a rule of thumb, you want your Hers pillow decal to be about twice as long as the His. This will help keep the perspective right when you have them on the bed. If you have a Cricut you can use my design files found here. Make sure you place the shiny side of the heat transfer down on your cutting mat and then mirror your image before cutting! Select the heat transfer setting on your machine and then cut out the letters.
If you don’t have a cutting machine, never fear, you can type out what you want the words to say in a word document. Make sure you use a nice, chunky font to help you cut out the letter. Place your printed word document over the heat transfer with the document on top of the shiny side and use it as a template to cut out the words.
After you have cut out the letters, peel away any excess heat transfer leaving just the words behind.

Place the words sticky side down in the center of the pillow or pillow case. Heat your iron up to the cotton setting and iron straight on top of the design for 30 seconds. Make sure EVERY part of the design gets at least 30 seconds of heat and pressure.
After you have finished ironing, peel the plastic sheet off of the design. If any parts of the words peel up when you pull off the plastic sheet, place the sheet down again and iron that spot again.
That’s it! You’re done. Put a king sized pillow in the pillow case and make up your bed with your new fun pillows. These pillows make me laugh every single time I see them.

I mentioned earlier that after 11 years of sleeping on a hand me down mattress, we finally replaced it with a from Sam’s Club and two weeks later I can say that we could not be more pleased with it. The 12″ memory foam mattress has three levels of foam to help provide more pressure relieving support. The first night we slept on the mattress, I didn’t know what to think. My husband loved the mattress from the first night but I wasn’t sold the first night. I wanted something I would sink into, not caring how bad that is for your back. After the third or fourth night sleeping on the mattress I woke up without back pain. That is when I really decided that that giving up our old sink to the floor mattress was a great idea.
This gel infused memory foam is fantastic for keeping me cool and relieving tension. This mattress was already compatible with our platform bedframe, so it was really nice to not have to buy a bed frame too. The mattress came shipped in a box. I was so worried that there was no way I was going to be able to fit the mattress in my car at my local Sam’s Club that I had it shipped to my house instead. When the box came I wish I would have just gone and picked it up. The box is small enough you could fit it in most cars! I am so excited that Serta has an out of the box mattress now. It is the convenience of a bed in a box but with the comfort of a brand that you know and trust.
The online ordering process is super simple. Simply buy the and then your mattress will show up on your porch a few days later, or you can head down to your local club and bring it home right now. It is available in King and Queen in club or Twin, Full, Queen, King, and California King online, so whichever size you need for your room or guest room.
I am so in love with this bed, from the new mattress to the fun (and true) pillowcases, I am so glad we upgraded.
How about you? Do you need a new mattress?

The His and Hers pillows are really cute. Yes sometimes we tend to overuse our beds as we are comfortable but only realize it when we shift to a new one.
