My 5-year-old is the master of dress-up. I am pretty sure she would never wear normal clothes if I didn’t make her. I will take her out somewhere in perfectly normal clothes, only to discover she had a sparkly dress-up top on underneath her jacket. I love the creativity and fun that dress-ups bring and she loves the chance to show her personality through her clothes. When I found this Replica of a Traditional Flamenco Dress, from Costume Discounters, for less than $25, I knew she had to have it. the bold colors and fun ruffles just screamed her name.
The costume came in the mail extremely quickly and fit perfectly. My daughter’s favorite part was the rose headpiece that fit perfectly over her bun that came with the dress. To complete the costume, we whipped up a simple jeweled choker. It came together in less than five minutes and was the perfect addition to this fun costume, this choker would also be fabulous for a Cinderella costume.
You will need:
- 3/4 inch black sating ribbon
- E-6000 or similar glue
- large rhinestone
- Fray Check
- Sticky Back Velcro Circles in black
Measure the neck of the person who the choker is for, add an extra inch to allow for fastening and then cut that much black ribbon. In the case of my 5-year-old, her neck measured 10 inches, so I cut 11. Fray check both ends of the ribbon to prevent future fraying. Attach the sticky backed Velcro, so the ribbon makes a loop. Fold the ribbon in half to find the exact center, unfold and glue the rhinestone to the center. Allow the choker to dry completely before wearing.
This Flamenco Costume has awakened a new love of Flamenco dance in my little girl, we have sat for hours watching different dance videos on YouTube, while my daughter, all dressed up tries to imitate the grace and power of Flamenco. We have really enjoyed this costume, it has held up to lots of play and dancing and it hangs really well. I love that it has a tie in the back of the costume, to help it fit every child.
We have loved this dress so much for creative play, that I think our next purchase is going to be the Spanish Princess dress. Who doesn’t love a dress that twirls when you dance?
