There is nothing my baby loves more than Minions. She can say about 15 words and one of them is Minion. She loves them so much, that I can’t walk by anything in the store that has a Minion on it without her pumping her fists in the air and shouting “Minion!” We are even considering braving the movie theater for the new movie because she loves them so much.
We have some grandparent birthdays coming up in our family. We usually do pictures of our kids for grandma birthdays and since the little one is SO into Minions right now, we decided to go ahead and do the pictures Minion style! We made each of the girls a shirt, so they could be Grandma’s Little Minions. Follow the instructions below to make a shirt of your own, using my designs.
You will need:
- Yellow Shirts (I can usually find the colors I am looking for in the boys section of Walmart)
- White Heat Transfer
- Black Heat Transfer
- Gray Heat Transfer
- A Cutting Machine, or patience and scissors
- An iron
- Parchment Paper
- Minion Files PDF here, use this file to trace your Minion shirt. These files are property of Housewife Eclectic and are for personal use only.
- Hallmark Minion Cards
When you make shirts with more than on top of each other one color of vinyl is called layering heat transfer and it is surprisingly easy and just needs a little patience. First trace your preference of Minion design from the files and cut them from heat transfer. The goggles need to be cut from gray, the large eyeball from white and the goggle straps, pupils and smile from black.
You will need to cut three different materials for this shirt, white heat transfer, black heat transfer and gray. Remember when cutting heat transfer with a machine, you always need to be sure to flip/mirror your images or you text will be backwards when you iron it on. For this project is isn’t crucial to flip the images, but I do anyways. Cut the eyeballs out of white heat transfer, the goggles out of gray and the pupils, glasses edges and smile out of black.
Weed the all of the negative parts of the design away, leaving just the pieces you need. . Place the white heat transfer (always start with the bottom layer) on your shirt with the carrier sheet up. Place the other sheets on top of the white design until it is positioned how you want. Peel the other sheets off the shirt leaving just the white.
Line up the goggle over the whites of the eye and iron down for 15 seconds. Peel the carrier sheet off of the goggle. Add the pupil, smile and straps of the goggle, place a piece of parchment paper on top of the entire design. This will keep the black from sticking to your iron.
Iron over the entire design for about 30 seconds (So the entire design has been ironed for 30 seconds, not 30 seconds total. Flip over and iron from the back for an additional 15-20 seconds. Peel off the black vinyl carrier sheet.
Put your kids in the Minion shirts and blue jeans for their photo shoot. My girls LOVE these shirt. When the baby is wearing it, we love to ask her where her Minion is, which she answers by furiously patting her chest.
Print your favorite photo from you Minion photo shoot and put it in a frame. I found a wooden 4×6 frame and painted it blue to match the Minion. Using yellow vinyl, I wrote Grandma’s Little Minions on the frame to tie it all together.
We added the frame to a blue back with yellow tissue to keep the whole Minion theme together and finished it off with one of Hallmark’s new Minion Birthday cards. These cards found in the birthday aisle at Walmart at all Minion themed and each one comes with a soft Minion keychain. The girls loved them, but they couldn’t decide on the perfect one to go with the present, so they each picked their own to include. Find more Hallmark Minion Cards on their facebook page.
These cute Hallmark cards come in all of your favorite Minions and they are perfect for tying any birthday present, especially a Minion themed one together.
