Easy Felt Doctor Who Ornaments or Charms

November 28, 2014 by Wifeeclectic 33 Comments

Hello again! I’m Lorene, Debra’s BFF (or is it more grown-up to say bestie?) and the sometimes-blogger over at just Lu. I started working as a virtual assistant about a year ago, and I love it but that means that my little ol’ blog takes the back seat most all of the time.

Last Christmas, I made my favorite Whovian (that’s Debra) a whole Doctor Who tree, complete with a Weeping Angel tree topper, character tree skirt, police box lighted sign, Doctors and companions garland, and oodles of Doctor-inspired ornaments. Today I’m here to share some of the super easy felt ornaments I made. You can put them on a tree, or use them as a charm on a keyring, earrings, whatever.

Easy Doctor Who Felt Ornaments

Felt Bowtie and Fez

Bowtie
Cut a long thin rectangle of red felt, about 6 or 8 times longer than it is wide. Lay it flat, fold the two ends to the center and secure them with a dab of hot glue.

Cut another rectangle just thinner than the first and about 2-3 times longer than it is wide. Glue one end to the center of the first now-folded rectangle, turned perpendicular. Wrap it around 1-2 times, pinching the first rectangle to form the bowtie look, and secure it with hot glue.

Fez
Cut a small circle of red felt, about the size of nickel. Cut a long thin strip of felt, about an inch wide. Glue the strip to the edge of the circle to form the fez shape, overlapping the ends of the strip by ⅛ inch or so and securing with hot glue. For the tassel on top, cut an L shape piece of felt, with a very thin upright and a thicker horizontal piece. Fringe the horizontal piece and then roll it up and secure it with a dab of hot glue. Glue the tassel on top of the fez and go traveling! Bonus points if you deck out your tree with some 3D glasses 🙂

Felt Psychic Paper

Cut a rectangle of black felt about 3 inches wide by 5 inches tall. Cut another rectangle of black felt about 3 inches wide by 2.5 inches tall, and then cut out the center of that rectangle, creating a ¼ inch black frame. Hot glue the frame to the other rectangle along two short sides and one long side, leaving one long side open to slide a piece of psychic paper into place.

The Doctor’s Two (Felt) Hearts

Doesn’t get easier than this! Cut two small hearts out of red felt and use a pencil or other small, sharp object to punch a very small hole in the top of each. Cut a short piece of jewelry chain (about 4 inches, depending on the size of the hearts). Attach a jump ring to each end of the chain and attach one heart to each jump ring.

Happy creating!
