The holidays are here and with it lots and lots of house guests. If you are like us, you live in the most central place for all of your family to gather so everyone always ends up here for the holidays. I absolutely love it! There is nothing like having family all around you at the best time of year. In years past, I have been the traveler and I know just how hectic it can be to get all of your family, luggage and Christmas presents all the way across the country for Christmas back at home. You are bound to forget something, I have forgotten anything from shampoo to baby wash for our daughter. It help alleviate some of the stress of traveling and staying away from home for the holidays, I wanted to create a Guest Welcome Basket for each of our guests, so they have all of the necessities they need without having to ask.
To dress up the basket a little bit, I add some bronze spray paint to some regular old mason jars and picked up the festive Kleenex boxes at Wal-mart. Have you tried in-store pickup? It is amazing! I just ordered all of my paper goods including Kleenex and Scott Toilet Paper and I didn’t even have to drag my kids into the store.
For the fancy mason jars you will need:
- large mason jars
- metallic bronze spray paint
- wooden knobs
- hot glue
- newspaper
Unscrew the lids and rings from each of the mason jars. Lay them out on newspaper or grocery sacks and spray them all with a metallic bronze spray paint. Spray paint the knobs the same color, making sure to get all of the little groves in the knobs. When both the lids and the knobs are dry, hot glue the knobs to the middle of the lids.
Fill the jars with cotton balls, q-tips, bath salts or anything else you think your guests might like. Add the lids to each jar and then screw on the rings.
Wifi Password Frame
You will need:
- The wifi printable
- scissors
- 5×7 frame
- whiteboard marker
Print out the printable found at the end of this post and then cut it down to 5×7 size. Add the printable to a frame with glass and then use the whiteboard maker to write your current wifi password on the glass. Putting the printable in the frame will let you erase and update your wifi password whenever you happen to change it.
For a Guest Welcome Basket you will need:
- a large basket (I found mine at Wal-mart)
- the cotton ball and q-tip jars we made earlier
- rolls of Scott’s Toilet Paper
- Kleenex (the Kleenex Oval are particularly pretty this time of year)
- wash cloths
- trial size shampoo and conditioner
- bottles of water
- wifi welcome sign
Fill the basket with all of the things you gathered for your guest. I started with the jars in the back of my Guest Welcome Basket.
Followed by a couple rolls of Scott’s Toilet Paper double stacked (Your guests are going to LOVE not having to ask for more rolls of toilet paper) and a couple of water bottles.
I folded a couple of wash clothes and put them in the Guest Welcome Basket as well as travel sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner and soap. If your guests are staying for an extended period of time, you could put full bottles of shampoo and conditioner instead. If you guest is bringing a baby with them consider adding a bottle of baby shampoo too.
I finished my basket off with a box of Kleenex and the framed wifi password.
I will put the basket either on the dresser in the guest room so that the guest will see it immediately when they come into the room! I hope it takes some of the stress out of their travels this year.
