Home Alone Laundry Change Jar

May 11, 2015 by Wifeeclectic 18 Comments

I used to be terrible about checking the pockets of clothes before I threw them into the wash. About a year after we got married, I accidentally washed my husband’s wallet. It took us forever to get everything dry again with a blow dryer.

Ever since then, I make sure whoever is doing the laundry checks everything thoroughly before dumping it into the washing machine this usually means that crayons, change and small toys float all over my laundry room. I knew that I needed a change jar to keep everything in and I love the movie Home Alone, I couldn’t resist the pop culture reference because “Keep The Change You Filthy Animal,” is about as classic Kevin McCallister as it gets.

You will need:

  • A Jar of any size
  • Black Vinyl

I cut out the letter on my Cricut, but you could easily cut them out by hand. After you cut them out weed out the negative space so just the words remain. The size of your words will depend on the size of your jar. Mine are about 1.75 inches tall.

Using transfer tape and a credit card, smooth the vinyl onto your jar.

Now I have a handy place to put all of the change and such that I find in pockets when I am doing the laundry. Maybe I will even use it to buy myself a treat.

I know that I have talked about them before but I absolutely love all free clear products. My daughter has SEVERE excezma, so bad that she has been seen for it in the emergency room more than once. Nothing has helped her skin as much as switching all of our laundry products to all free clear.

When I first started using all free clear , I only washed her clothes in it and my clothes in something else. It hardly made any difference, I found out that she was still being exposed to the chemicals in our family detergent by touching our clothes, towels and sheets. I switch to using all free clear for the whole family and I was surprised at the difference in made in her skin. Think about it, you wear your clothes on your skin all day long, do you really want all the chemicals in other laundry detergents by your skin that long?

all free clear comes in liquid or pods. I personally use the pods because they make my laundry so easy, but I love both. As always with any laundry detergent, keep out of reach of children.

    Cute change jar!
My son had severe eczema (he even had two surgeries because of it – and I say "had," because he's now graduated to a moderate case of eczema, thankfully), and all free clear is one of THE only laundry soaps we can use.

This is such a fun idea! I find change in my pockets all the time or it ends up in my dryer. I need to try this out and use the detergent. I'm kind of tired of my old one so I'd love to give it a shot!

What a tremendous idea! We have a change jar as well that my kids use to chose a charitable project each Christmas…it's amazing how much you can really collect over 12 months!

Ahahaha! I love the saying on the jar! 🙂 My kiddos pretty much take care of their own laundry, so I never really get the chance to find money in the laundry – but this is such a cool idea! I might have to make a jar just for the hilarity of the saying!

We switched to All Free & Clear when my daughter was born. It's the only thing that doesn't flare her eczema.

Ha Ha. I love the jar! I usually only find rocks in my kids pockets, not as fun as change!

Love this and love All Free and Clear. We have used cloth diapers for both our kids and this is one of the only detergents safe enough for them! Thanks!
