When we moved into our house a few months ago, we decided we needed a security system. We have a pool in the backyard and I was terrified our little one was going to get into the back yard by herself. Yes, the pool has a cover, but I wanted the added assurance of security system. We set up two cameras on the pool, and a couple others throughout the house. We have LOVED the , but we still needed something to work as a baby monitor. Should we buy a baby monitor or add another camera to our . Here is why we decided to do the later.
When our first daughter was born, we lived a tiny apartment. It was about 600 square feet big and so small that our oven couldn’t fit a regular sized cookie sheet and our queen sized bed had to be pushed against the corner of the room to make enough space to get to the closet. It wasn’t much, but we were really happy there. When we brought our first daughter home to that little apartment, we didn’t even bother buying a baby monitor. There just wasn’t enough space to need one, I could hear her from any corner of the tiny space.
When our second daughter was born, we had upgraded our living quarters by quite a bit, it was town house and we still made do without a monitor. When we moved into our house this last year, I knew something had to change. I couldn’t hear her on the other side of the house and I hated coming to check on her to find her sobbing because I couldn’t hear her. We borrowed my mom’s baby monitor for awhile but there were so many things I disliked about it I vowed I would find something better. After lots of research, these are the requirements I decided it needed to have.
- A camera with wide angle and zoom.
- No range requirements. I didn’t want the monitor to not work if I was in the backyard weeding.
- 2 way speaker. I wanted to be able to tell her I was coming to get her.
- Night Vision. What good is a camera if I can’t see her at bedtime?
- Be able to see the monitor from my smart phone.
- A shutter
I looked around at a lot of monitors even bought and returned a couple, but when I found the , I knew I had found my perfect match. While it wasn’t designed to be a baby monitor from the get go, it is exactly what I wanted, it met all of my requirements.
A camera with wide angle and zoom: The camera on the Myfox camera is HD with 130 degree wide angle, so I can see what is going on easily. It also has a 4x zoom so I can get a closer look if I want to.
No range requirements. This is my FAVORITE part of this camera. All of the baby monitors I checked out worked great up to a specified number of feet. With this camera I can use it anywhere I use my phone.
2 Way Speaker. This camera lets me talk to my baby to let her know that I am on the way to get her and it lets me say good night to her on the few nights a year that I am way.
Night Vision. The camera has automatic night vision, so I can check on my little one just before my head hits the pillow.
Smart Phone Monitoring. I can monitor her from the back yard. I can monitor her from another state. I can check to make sure she went to sleep OK for the baby sitter. It is perfect.
A shutter. This is hands down the amazing part about the Myfox. With a touch of a button, I can close the camera. The room is easily made private!
One of the other features that I didn’t know that I wanted but now loves is that I can set up motion detection and it will send me a notification when she is moving around.
The Myfox app works with both iOS and Android and the set up on both your smart phone and the device is cake, it takes less than 2 minutes to have everything connected and working. It also has a battery back up just in case.
I am thrilled with this option and it has worked great for us! I wish I could go back and time and use it from the beginning!
This is so great! While our baby cam is viewable via our phones, it does not have a 2 way speaker and I love the idea of being able to reassure them before getting there. WANT!
Oh this is good. Im movi g to a new city and while I dont have any kids anynore, this would be great to have around just in case. Thats for the recommendation.
I've been telling Todd I wanted a security camera setup for our house so I can check out noises without having to go all over the house (it's an old house with lots of strange noises); doubly so for when we get a dog. This sounds like a great set-up, thank you so much for the review!
I would love having security measures like this to keep track although I don't have any children myself. This is great though.
What a great monitor. I would have loved that when my kids were babies.
wow this this is amazing! I wish they would have had something like this when my daughter was little
What a fantastic idea! Although I don't have any children, I do plan to use something like this in the future.
I would love one of these, besides the obvious desire to have it monitor the outside of the house, our house has so many walls trying to keep track of all three kids is difficult.
This sounds like an amazing gadget. We need to upgrade our security system. I will check this out.
This sounds like an amazing monitoring system. We have alarms everywhere, but it would be helpful to have cameras to just to keep an eye on the kids. Definitely checking this out. Thanks!
It's amazing the gadgets they have now for baby monitors isn't it? We have two in the house for when we left our dogs with the dog sitter 😉
Wow, that's crazy that technology is so advanced that baby monitors come straight to your phone! I would definitely like to have one of these, if anything just to keep an extra eye on my equipment!
Those are some really handy benefits. Sometimes it pays to think "outside the box" when choosing a product.
This is such great information! I was hoping to need one of these this year, but unfortunately it didn't work out. I'm hoping we can try again so we can use one of these in the near future. I'll save for later because these are all fantastic tips!
What a great system. I wish I would have had this when my kids were little
I can't believe how advanced baby monitors are now! They've come a long way from just a few years ago.
I would've loved to have a camera when my kids were smaller to watch and look out for them.
I'm so glad we are out of the baby monitor season of life, but I can definitely see how this could be a huge benefit to many families.
I agree completely that a wide angle camera is very important. Most people just have a camera pointing at the crib and that is not enough. This is a great post
These are so cool! I love the peace of mind a good security/camera system can give you!
I had no idea, good to know!
So smart, you can never be too cautious with a pool and little ones. Good parenting.
I know the feeling, and we got a cam too when my girl was a baby. We actually used it until not long ago. every time she was napping or sleep longer than us, I would turn it on so I could keep an eye on her. So sad I didn't know about this one back then… seems like a greta cam!
Hugs
I am really interested in trying this!
This is very cool. If I were in the market for one, I would definitely consider this one!
This sounds like an amazing baby monitor. Having this is definitely a smart move.
Great product for keeping baby safe and reassuring mom that baby is safe.
I am so glad they didn't have cameras when my kids were little.
I had the angel care monitor and that was enough for me.
Some nights I would crank up the volume so I could hear them breath and that was enough to help me to rest. I doubt I would have slept if I could have watched them!
I love the sound of the camera. I've been wanting something like this for my boys. More as a keep them in check thing when grandpa is watching them since they are 6 and 9. They behave a lot better knowing we can see them and correct them when needed.
We have a camera at the front door of the house for security purposes but when there were little I know I wouldn't have been able to sleep if I could have seen them! As a parent you can never bee too careful though.
This looks like a Mac daddy baby monitor. We just bought a new one, they can be so temperamental!
This looks like a really amazing baby monitor!
It is amazing to me how baby monitors have changed since my kiddos wee little! They were a great product then, but now they do so much more! I bet they help reassure parents everyday.
The advance of technology nowadays is incredible! The system that works for these cameras is really a great hel the user, you can even monitor via mobile. Thanks for sharing this.
It's crazy that my daughter isn't even that old and this technology wasn't even around then! All you new mamas and dads please take advantage! I would of loved this when my daughter was itty bitty.
What great features! This would've been great when mine were young.
I bet this make a parent feel so much safer!
I bet the night vision really comes in handy with a baby monitor. And, how lucky are parents now…that they can keep a watchful eye over their kids using their smartphone.
My son is three and our baby monitor looks ancient compared to this one. It is crazy how much things change and how much gear babies need!
I am totally going to get a home security system if and when we have kids! I want to be able to monitor what is going at any given moment!
I've never been a baby monitor person…But it's so cool what they can do!
This sounds awesome! Definitely looks very useful.
