I have been overwhelmed with my daughter’s bedroom for awhile. It seemed like no matter what I did, there were unmade beds, dress ups every where, stacks of clothes that never made it into the dress and toys all over the place. I created chore charts and even bribed my kids but they seemed just as overwhelmed as I did. The fact was, there was just too much stuff and not a good system for all of it. Over the course of a year we went through things and got rid of all toys and clothes, and tried different organization techniques and ideas until we finally came up with a fantastic system. Our system works so well that when it is time for them to clean their room it takes them 10 minutes tops. I think that is a major win. Here is everything we did to help organize their room and keep it clean.
How to Keep Your Child’s Room Clean
Beddy’s (Bed Ease)
Beddy’s- If I am being completely honest, I have brought Beddy’s Bedding up to almost everyone I know. Simply said, it is amazing. One of my biggest complaints with their room was the unmade beds but my older daughter struggled to get up for school with enough time to make her bed in the morning and my younger daughter struggled to make her bed in general. Enter Beddy’s. To make this amazing bedding, you zip it up. It is so amazing even my toddler can do it by herself.
Now if it was just zippered bedding, I wouldn’t be so in love but they have really thought of everything. Everything is connected from the bottom sheet to the minky layer and top quilt, it is all one piece. It has comfort panels on the side that you can pull out so you aren’t cold at night. The entire thing fits over the bed like a fitted sheet so it always looks perfectly tucked in every time you make. Simply take in your side panels and zip up for the perfect look.
I absolutely adore the minky layer on the bedding as well. It is so comfortable and yes, I did sleep in my daughter’s bed one night to test it out. Another thing I love? It holds up to the washer and dryer. Of course the week we got our brand new Beddy’s, my daughter got the flu and that bedding was washed, washed and then washed some more and would never know. It is pristine. If I had to list the best thing I have done for my sanity as a mom, it would be putting Beddy’s on my girls bed. Now we have always made beds and no fighting.
Dresser Stickers
I created these stickers for my daughter’s dress using my Cricut. Since she is just a toddler, getting clothes put away in the right place was always a challenge. These stickers have helped so much! She knows exactly where everything goes and it much more helpful in keeping her clothes picked up. You can find the tutorial for making the stickers here: DIY Dresser Stickers.
Toy Labels
One of the things that was getting out of hand was the toys in my girls room. I went and bought a plastic bucket for every kind of toy. One for the train set, the toy cars, the doctor kit and so on. I separated every toy into their right container and then I labeled them with picture labels to make sure my toddler knew which bucket was which as well.
These buckets are all stacked in their closet and we have a strict one bucket at a time rule. This rule has kept their room from getting out of control and the sticker labels have made it easy to find the right bin and pick things up. Find the tutorial for the toy labels here: Toy Storage Labels.
Stuffed Animal Storage
If your kids are anything like mine, there room looks like the stuffed animal aisle of a toy store. After trying everything from bins, to a toy zoo, we found a stuffed animal bean bag and it has eased all of our stuffed animal woes.
Dress Up Storage
One of the biggest problems we face in our girls room was their dress ups. They were too short to hang their dress ups in the closet so we needed another solution. I took an old sturdy dresser and removed the drawers and the hardware inside. I then painted it a fun color and screwed a long dowel into the dresser. It is the perfect place for them to hang all of their dresses. It keeps them in easy reach but picked up off of the floor.
All of these solutions have really helped us. We love our Beddy’s especially.

I love the idea of a child’s comforter that zips. It makes it so much easier for them to make the bed, especially bunk beds. What a great concept. The stickers and labels are great ideas too.

First thing is to always get rid of old and broken stuff. Helps when there are bins and baskets to keep everything in. The kids always helped clean and make their beds themselves. Never to early to start teaching them how to do things for themselves.

Both of my boys have always done a good job keeping their room reasonably neat. I’ve never heard of Beddy’s before but it’s a really neat idea and I think I’d like the minky layer also.

I love the idea of dresser stickers! That’s an organizer’s ultimate dream! They would have come in handy for when my daughter was younger.

Where were all these ideas when my girls were little? Sharing the post for my granddaughter’s room. Now, can you come over and help Babushka organize HER room? : ) BB2U

My kids are 12 and 11 and I still find it overwhelming when their bedroom are so messy! We just cleaned up their closets and put all the clothes that they no longer need in a box and I will ship it soon to my country where children are in desperate need of clean clothes.

Beddy’s would have been the perfect solution if I had them when my kids were still little! It would have saved us a lot of time in the morning! I wonder what mattress sizes would they have? I mean my kids are older now, but I still have to remind them to make their beds and they still struggle with the task up to this day.

Love the zip up bedding! Is there a size for adult sized-beds? It’s really something I’d love to check out. It’s not easy to keep the house clean but these are great pointers for parents!
