How to Make and Personalize Glitter Dipped Tumblers

I don’t know about you, but I seem to hit a wall every afternoon. It’s the time of day where I can’t seem to work faster than a snail’s pace. I’ve found the best thing for me to do when I hit this wall is to take a break and do something creative. It gets me moving and my mind working again. I especially love when I can make something useful.
 
For months I have wanted a tumbler to keep at my desk to fill with my favorite drinks (like Snapple®), and working on this project in segments during my afternoon break was the perfect thing to get me ready for more work.
 
One thing I love about these cups is how easy they are to make. They do take some time to dry, but the actual active part of the craft is very quick. You will have a cup to enjoy your favorite beverage during your afternoon break in no time.
 
 
You will need:
  • a plastic tumbler
  • loose glitter
  • dishwasher-safe decoupage
  • masking tape
  • foam brush
  • a piece of paper
  • vinyl and a way to cut them (a machine or scissors)
 
 
Wrap masking tape around the bottom of a plastic tumbler. It can be hard to get it completely straight if you use one long piece so I used several smaller pieces to get all the way around the tumbler.
 
 
Apply a coat of decoupage to the bottom, taped off part of your tumbler. Lay a piece of paper down and shake the glitter on your tumbler over the paper. That way you will be able to turn the paper into a funnel and put the excess glitter back in the container.
 
 
Allow the tumbler to fully dry, which takes about two hours. After the tumbler is dry, add another layer of the glue and another layer of glitter. This second layer should really be what makes the glitter opaque on the bottom of the glass. Allow this layer to dry for another two hours.
 
 
When the tumbler is dry, seal the glitter in with another layer of glue and allow to dry. The glitter will need to cure for three weeks before it is safe to put in the dishwasher, but you can add vinyl and other fun things right away.
 
 
Peel the tape off the bottom of the cup to leave a section of the cup glittered. Cut glitter vinyl out for your cup. If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can print the designs you want on a piece of paper, cut them out and then trace them onto the back of the vinyl and cut the designs out of the vinyl. It is really much easier to use a vinyl cutter, but if you don’t have that option you can still make these darling cups. Hearts are extremely easy to cut without a machine so it might be fun to go that route.
 
 
Peel the vinyl off the backing and stick it to the cup. A curved surface can be a tricky thing to apply vinyl to, so I like to warm my vinyl up with a hair dryer for about a minute to help it go on smoothly.
 
After your vinyl is set, you are ready to fill up your glass with your favorite drink. I love Snapple Kiwi Strawberry and my kids do too. And lucky for me — and for you — from February 1 to April 27, you can find 64oz bottles of Snapple on rollback for 3/$5, only at your local Walmart. It makes it even sweeter to be able to enjoy our family’s favorite drink for less money.
 
 
I love the rollback because I can grab three bottles to make sure I have a little something sweet on hand when I need it.

    What a fabulous DIY with glitter! I love glittered ANYTHING so might need to try this out. But waiting 3 weeks for the dishwasher is a loooong time to wait to use the cup. However, its too cute to not make!

    Oh I used to love me some Snapple Peach tea back in the days. I really like the idea of the glitter paper rather than glitter. In my house anything that has glitter on it leaves a trail everywhere.
