How to make shaped crayons faster

March 14, 2010 by Wifeeclectic 7 Comments

I’m sure you have probably seen these crayons all over the Internet by now. I first received a babycenter e-mail with the idea in them and I swear by that afternoon every crafty blog had tried them.

I decided it looked like fun but I had a couple of problems. First of all, I couldn’t afford the fancy baking trays. So I bought the cheap silicone ice cube trays and guess what? They worked. Second my oven was currently out of commission. So… I microwaved them. It worked great. They had to be in for about 4 minutes.
After microwaving, I let them cool and harden. (I just had to show you my mess of crayon shavings.)
Here they are all finished. I think I am going to send them to my artsy sister.
Now I guess I am officially on the bandwagon.

I think this is a FANTASTIC birthday or holiday idea. Throw it with a few coloring books. And really? the silicone are less expensive than regular candy molds? I would have thought the opposite.

Super cute! I might have to join that bandwagon — my niece was in tears the other night at my parents because my mom's crayons were "only broken ones." And most of them are older than me…

That is a fantastic idea! My daughters would love that!

Now it does stick after cooling?

I so want to be crafty!
