Marquee #USA Sign

July 1, 2015 by Wifeeclectic 19 Comments

I haven’t done a ton of Fourth of July crafting this year. We have been working really hard to reduce what is in our house because we aren’t sure what is one the horizon for us home wise, so I have been just reusing old decorations and not making new ones, until I found this Hashtag Marquee sign at Jo-Ann Stores yesterday. I fell immediately in love and since I was able to come up with ideas to use it at every holiday, I decided to spring for it. I pulled together this sign in an afternoon and I only wish I had come up with it sooner. I am not sure I am going to be able to convince myself to ever take it down.

For this sign you will need:

  • The Hashtag Marquee Sign
  • Large Paper Mache Letters
  • Acrylic Paint in red, white and blue
  • fine glitter in red, white and blue
  • Mod Podge

Paint each letter either red, white or blue. Since I bought the red hashtag sign, I started with blue to break up the colors a little bit more. Give each letter two or three coats.

When your letters are completely dry, use a foam brush to brush a coat of Mod Podge over the top of them. Sprinkle fine glitter onto each letter. I did just blue glitter on the blue letter, just red on the red but all three colors on the white letter. Allow the letters to dry and then seal them with an sealer spray.

I absolutely love this sign and you can be sure you will see this marquee hashtag in future projects. I might be a little obsessed with it. The Marquee sign was $19.99 at Jo-Ann Stores, but I was able to use a 60% off coupon that I found on their site to bring it down to $8, so overall the sign wasn’t as pricey as I always imagined them being.

What decorations do you have up for the 4th?

We aren't ready! Every day I've been trying to do a different craft with the kids. I wish I had started earlier.

I love that you included the hashtag! That made it modern and totally pin-able! 😀 I just recently realized we don't have much for 4th of July decorations, so I may have to make your marquee sign myself. Thanks!

I love the way you combined the hashtag a with the USA – so very clever! Looks great. I just painted a pallet to be a flag – hoping that this simple and large piece of decor would help liven up a corner of my yard! It worked. Your project looks like it would give a large bang for the buck as well. good job! http://positivelystacey.com/2015/06/turn-a-pallet-into-a-flag-easy-fourth-of-july-decor/
