I have always loved Valentine’s Day. My mom has always said she is allergic to crafting, but without fail every Valentine’s Day she would throw herself into making amazing boxes for us to take to school. I use to delight in seeing what we could come up with and I was so excited to help my daughter make her first box this year. This year we are celebrating and both my daughter and I fell in love with the idea of a penguin box. This little guy came together pretty quick and my daughter loves him so much, she even named him!
You will need:
- Mod Podge
- Apple Barrel Paint in White
- Large Google Eyes
- Red Glitter
- Craft Foam in Red, Yellow and Black
- Red Felt
- Twine
- A Sponge Brush
- Hot Glue
- A Empty Bleach Bottle
Thoroughly rinse and dry your bleach bottle. Make a cut out in the middle of your black foam as picture above. Hot glue the foam to the bottom half of the bleach bottle. I used the grove from where the label was as the guide to where the foam should go. The foam won’t make it all the way around the bottle, but that is fine because you need to cut a slit in the back for the valentines.
Cut two hearts out of red foam. Cover the hearts with a thin layer of Mod Podge. Sprinkle the hearts with glitter and then dump off the excess. Allow them to dry completely and then seal them with another layer of Mod Podge.
Cut two large hearts out of the yellow foam and a small yellow oval. Hot glue the yellow hearts onto the bottoms of the bottle to be the feet of your penguin. Hot glue the glitter red hearts over the tummy to be the bow tie and then add the eyes and yellow oval as the beak over top. I added a dab of hot glue to my beak so that it would stay folded in half.
Cut a small heart out of a piece of foam, leaving the foam intact so you can use it as a stencil. You will want to cut a heart that has a very sharp point and well defined lines so that it will come across well in the paint.
Randomly sponge hearts onto your red felt and allow to dry completely.
Hot glue the red felt around the top of the black foam. Gather the felt in your hand and tie with a piece of twine so it looks like your penguin is wearing a hat.
