I am probably a little slow. I admit it. It just never occurred to me that I could buy that stretchy stuff that little girl’s headbands are made of by the yard. It is usually less than a dollar a yard depending on where you look. A yard makes about two headbands depending on the age and size of the child.
I bought a yard of a couple of colors at my local Hobby Lobby and went about making my headbands. What should have taken minutes took me almost an hour, so here, learn from my mistakes.
1. Measure you child’s head according to how you want it to fit. You might want it a bit smaller than your child’s head because they are stretchy and you don’t want it falling off. You decide.
2. When you go to sew them, fold it in half with the right sides together and then sew a straight seam close to the edge. Seriously, put the right sides together and sew across the side that doesn’t have so many frills. I didn’t do this and I ended up unjamming my machine for 45 minutes.
The are really easy and so much cheaper than buying them pre-made.
Maybe it's just due to the fact that I don't have a little girl, but that never occurred to me either. 🙂
Love the new design!
That is a great idea.
Came over from SITS to say hi.

Just a tip from a veteran sewist (sewer sounds like I should be in waste management, right? lol): Sandwiching difficult materials between pieces of interfacing or (in a pinch) wax paper makes things so much simpler on you! This works for nubbly materieals as well as high-pile things like faux-fur or batting that can get stuck in your feed dogs or on the presser foot 🙂 Both are easy to remove (esp. if you use tearaway interfacing) after the sewing is done.
I don't have little girls, but that is a great idea.
Happy Friday!! I am a New Follower!

Holy carp! I was just saying to my hubby " I bet I could make one of these" when I was holding my daughter's headband…
I thought " I wonder if they sell it by the roll at the fabric shop!
I have to go find some of this to make!

what a wonderful idea! I'm coming through from Theta Mom Community! Great blog:)
I didn't know you could buy this material by the yard! I thought women were sitting around crocheting these things, lol.
That is so good to know, I'm pregnant with a little girl and I'll have to hunt down some of this stuff so I can make a whole mess of these!
