There are few things more nostalgic for me than eating a Dole Whip while you sit in The Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland.
My grandma loves The Tiki Room so we always ended up watching the birds sing every time we were there. As a child, I thought nothing could be more boring. As an adult, I love the nostalgia and make my kids go every time. They love the chance to get out of the sun and see the birds sing. In fact, it is one of my younger daughter’s favorite attractions, so this year for our end-of-school-year party, we went with an Enchanted Tiki Room theme!
Every year to celebrate the end of school, I let my kids throw a big party. We BBQ, invite kids and their parents, and have a huge swim party. Really for me, the party has two reasons. The first is to celebrate the end of the school year and the second is to get to know the parents of my children’s school friends so we can have them over all summer. It is a fun tradition and my kids love it!
Enchanted Tiki Room Party
From Oriental Trading we used:
- Jumbo Tiki Cardboard Cutouts
- Tropical Flower Table Skirt
- Tabletop Cantina
- Premium Satin Flower Leis
- Tabletop Polynesian Torches
- Island VSB Tropical Birds
- Jumbo Parrots
- Luau Hibiscus Decorating Kit
- Pineapple Cups with Lids
- Tropical Toy and Candy Assortment
- Tiki Pinata
Other things we use:
- Pineapple serving dishes
- Pineapple straws
- Yellow plates and napkins
- Printable sign and invitations (included at the end of this post)
- Hula hoops
Oriental Trading had just about everything we needed for a fun Tiki Room party! The most important element was obviously the birds. I bought different birds to hang from out cantina, and to shake up the rows of birds hanging on our patio, we hung some from hula hoops to help replicate the feeling inside The Enchanted Tiki Room.
We hung all of the birds on twine across the party area, so when someone would pull the twine or whenever a good breeze came along, the birds would dance just like at the real Tiki Room.
We used the Tiki Pinata as a prop for the center of the serving table until we let the kids break it open. It was cute enough to be a decoration and game!
We created a cute Tiki sign for the party theme and invitations to go with it. You can download both for free at the bottom of the post. The poster prints best as a 16×20 and the invitations print perfectly as a 4×6!
For food, we went with a lot of traditional BBQ foods along with lots of fresh fruit, homemade Dole Whips, and pineapple juice.
Even for a daylight party, tiki torches really add the right touch to the eating tables! I wrapped a lei around each torch and I loved the way it looks!
I absolutely LOVED the leis we picked for the kids to wear. They were such good quality and so vibrant.
The package came with a variety of colors, some rainbow, some solids! It was great for a kids party because they all pick what suited them.
What would a Tiki Room party be without a Copycat Dole Whip? This recipe is so easy to make and the perfect way to cool off at a summer party.
Copycat Dole Whip Float Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cans Dole Pineapple, frozen (about 6 cups)
- 3/4 C. lite coconut milk
- 3/4 C. pineapple juice
- Extra pineapple juice
- Maraschino cherries
Directions
Combine your frozen pineapple, coconut milk, and 3/4 C. pineapple juice in a blender and blend until smooth.
I like to put my mixture back in the freezer for about 30 minutes and then put it in a large plastic bag and pipe it into cups, but you can spoon it in as well.
Fill the rest of the cup with leftover pineapple juice and add a cherry on top!
To make your Dole whip extra darling, spoon it into a pineapple cup!

These cups were the hit of the party. Seriously, I think the kids loved them almost as much as the pinata.
I always like to have a fun place for people to take pictures at my parties, so we used these Jumbo Tiki backdrops as a sort of photo background. They were absolutely perfect.
Is it even a party without a pinata? The kids LOVED the pinata and I love that Oriental Trading makes filling one so easy with their assorted bags of filler. They even had one with all luau-themed toys and candy! Perfect for this party!
