Tips For A Stress Free Family Vacation

January 17, 2015 by Wifeeclectic Leave a Comment

Family vacations can be a great way to unwind and disconnect from everyday life. It can also be a great way to reconnect with the people you love the most. Unfortunately, it can also be a tremendous amount of stress for the person planning it. If you have a family vacation coming up, consider these tips to help it go as smoothly as possible.

Include the Whole Family

Make sure your partner and children are aware of where you will be going and what that entails. Research activities and attractions beforehand and get a feel for what everyone is most excited about doing. Think about each member of your family and make sure something is on the itinerary to cater to that person. Spending time doing things each person wants to do will help that person feel special and included as well as unite the family together as a whole.

Capture Moments

Vacations are great while you are doing them, but you also want those memories and good feelings to last for a long time. Capture special moments with photos or keepsakes to bring some vacation home with you. You can keep the good times alive even when you are not on vacation.

Frequent Visitor?

Does your family have a particular spot that they like to vacation in over and over again? One way to consider making these vacations more affordable and more frequent is to purchase a vacation rental. This allows you to plan more vacations because housing will be covered. Renting out these spaces can also bring in a little extra income to finance your vacations. Visio Lending, or other similar companies, can provide more information about this venture.

Plan, Plan, Plan

The more planning you do beforehand, the less stress you will have on the actual vacation. Know where you are going to stay, how you are going to get around, things on your must-see list, and back up activities. Even planning when and where you are going to eat can save you not only stress but also money. Planning a good vacation takes a lot of time, so don’t expect just to pick up and go and have a relaxing getaway.

Share Responsibilities

Just as you should involve your family in the planning of your vacation, you should also include them in the execution. Everyone needs to be involved and have a job when it comes to the responsibilities for the trip. Consider each family member and what they are good at and make assignments. Sharing the duties not only takes some of the stress off of your shoulders, but it also makes everyone feel like they are included.

Have a Safety Plan

Being away from home increases stress for moms trying to keep track of multiple children. Go over safety plans with your children. This will look different for each age group. Small children should know your first and last name as well as your phone number. You may even consider attaching your phone number to them somewhere when you are out in public. Older kids may have their own phones, so make sure they are always charged and have your number saved in them. Go over procedures for if they get lost and who to ask for help.
