These Travel First Aid Kits are really easy to make and are perfect for throwing in your purse or for your husband to keep in his desk at work. I don’t know about you, but I never seem to get a headache or cut at a convenient time, so this small kit it perfect for taking care of it.
You will need:
- A plastic straw
- needle nose pliers
- a match
- antibiotic ointment
- An Altoids container
- a sticky back magnet
- Adhesive Bandages
- Small roll of Rolaids
- Ibuprofen
- Scrapbook Paper
- Mod Podge
- Scissors
- small nail clippers
- letter stickers or cut vinyl
The first thing I did was prep the Altoids container for use as a first aid container. I emptied the mints and wiped out the inside. I stuck the sticky magnet to the top of the container, this will hold the safety pins securely, so they aren’t floating everywhere.
Lay your container on the back of a piece of scrapbook paper and trace the outline. Cut it out and use Mod Podge to secure it to the front of the container. I did a couple of coats to make sure it was really secure. Allow to dry completely before applying the vinyl letters or stickers to the front.
Most of the items can be placed directly in the container, with little or no work, but the antibiotic ointment needs just a little prep to make it small enough to be travel sized. This is where the straw, pliers, and matches come in. Squeeze the ointment into a small section of straw. When you feel you have enough in the straw for a one time application, use the pliers to hold the straw pinched shut and seal it closed with a match. Repeat for the other side. Make a few of these for your container and you have the first aid ointment when you need it, without it taking up too much space.
You can find just about everything you need for this first aid kit in the first aid and pain relievers sections of the store. The small roll of stomach medicine and the mints I found at the front by the registers.
