- Replace the hardware. Outdated handles and hinges can really change the look of your cabinets very quickly with a little bit of work. Choosing new handles and knobs that can coordinate with an updated finish are often a welcome change, and you can even add a pop of colour. If your hinges and your fixtures have been a plain black colour before, you can always change them to gold or to another bright colour that will change the way that they look. - Sand and repaint cabinets. If you have wooden cabinets, you can upgrade them with a complete refinish or restain.
