Harry Potter Flying Key Ornaments

December 14, 2016 by Wifeeclectic 23 Comments

When I started my Harry Potter tree, one of the first things I wanted to make was keys with wings. In the first book, one of the obstacles Harry has to get passed when he is trying to protect the Sorcerer’s Stone is a locked door. There are tons off different keys flying around and he has to find the right one on a broomstick. I love the look of old fashioned keys and this story so it was a perfect combo. You can find a link to the keys I used below.

You will need:

  • old fashioned keys
  • gold tulle or bamboo placemats
  • hot glue
  • ornament hangers

Old Fashioned Keys
Gold Tulle
Bamboo Placemat

I made two different kind of flying keys. The tulle keys are the easiest. All you need to do is thread the tulle through the top of the key and tie it in a simple knot to look like wings.

The bamboo placemat keys are a little harder, but not much. Simple cut a bamboo place mat on either side of a threaded section. Pinch the cut piece in the middle and tie with a piece of twine. Glue the key to the top of the bamboo and you have a darling flying key!

These flying keys are the perfect and fun addition to my Harry Potter tree! Which of the ornaments I have shared so far are your favorite?

Super cool! They look fairly easy to make and would really look pretty against the lights of a christmas tree. Next year when I actually have a tree I'll have to try this.
