Indoor At Home Workout

October 7, 2015 by Wifeeclectic 27 Comments

I don’t have time to hit the gym every day. Working out is really important to both me and my husband, but since we both work and have two littles at home, finding making time to hit the gym never seems to happen. It isn’t such a big deal in the summer — we throw the kids in the stroller and go for a run — but we live in a place with a long, cold winter. It is dark by the time we are ready for a workout and we have been looking for something we could do at home. We have tried Pilates, Tae Bo and other workout videos, but while we liked them, they just weren’t what we were looking for. I wanted a workout that:
  • I could do inside
  • I could do while watching a show (It is our only time we have for TV)
  • That was relatively quick
  • That toned well
  • That wasn’t so hard I would give up
  • That wasn’t so easy it stopped being challenging fast
I really think we have found a great workout that meets all of these stipulations. My husband has been doing it for more than year and it is still challenging without being overly exhausting. It is perfect for someone who wants a quick workout at home. The workout requires three sets. So complete each step and then repeat two more times. We found this workout routine here, check out the rest of their routines for other great work at home ideas.

First complete 10 pushups.

Next, 20 crunches or sit ups. You can start with crunches and work your way up to sit ups.

Hold a 20 second plank.

Hold a wall sit for 35 seconds.

10 squats

10 lunges. Five on each leg.

Repeat the entire set two more times.

After I made the commitment to stop drinking diet soda, and working out every day, the last thing I want to do is ruin my hard work during the day when I am out and about and need a snack. I have started carrying a protein bar with me wherever I go so I can get the energy I need without getting the calories that I don’t.

Zone Perfect has come out with a Perfectly Simple Nutrition bar that is high in protein, 200 calories or less, and gluten free. There is an Almond Toffee Crunch, Bing Cherry & Almond, Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk, and Roasted Cashew and Dark Chocolate. They are perfect for throwing in my purse for when I am on the go. Right now you can download a $1 off coupon for the Perfectly Simple bars and try them for yourself!

What is your favorite at home work out?

We sorta have the opposite problem down here: the summers are so hot and humid that going out and even walking a mile around our neighborhood is an invitation to heatstroke (or at least excessively sore joints). Now that the temperature has dropped a bit we're back to walking on the weekends. Otherwise, our exercise is home improvement projects 😉

anytime I can't make it to the gym, I do a version of my favorite barre class. It's easy and can be done anywhere in the house!

My husband and I love to workout together. We mostly workout at the gym but when we workout at home we do T25.

I've been trying to get into a work routine at home that does not cause more injuries to my spine. Thank you for sharing your workout, I'll have to ask my doctor if I can add in any exercises that might help me.

I just started doing Yoga. It felt right for me to start off with a program I know that I can do, and get more flexibility.

That looks like a great workout, and I love that you can just do it in the house. Will have to motivate myself to try it!

What a great workout. I tend to workout at home with my toddler since I can't make it to the gym often.

I have the same problem you do. We basically have 6 months of winter here and the last place I want to be is outside (and usually it's too cold for that to really even be safe). I love this simple (and fast!) workout plan!

Be mindful in the squats. Heels need to be on the floor, and knees shouldn't be over the toes. I have some home workout videos on my website you could try too 🙂

You guys have awesome willpower! If I'm at home, I have absolutely *NO* motivation to workout. I will do anything to avoid it: fold laundry, clean toilets, browse the phonebook…(haha). I'm hoping my attitude will change someday though, cause I rarely have time to get out of the house to work out either.

I have to be in a class or at the gym… it is so hard for me to get motivated in my own home. I try but it is never a great workout. Im glad you found a routine you like!

I am not someone who can get up and go to the gym every morning so working out at home is ideal for me. Thanks for sharing these exercises and I will be adding some to my workout routine!
