A few weeks ago, I was given the wonderful opportunity with some other bloggers to go on a tour of and see a show at Hale Centre Theatre in West Valley City, UT. While I am pretty sure I could never get up on a stage myself, I have a deep love of the theater, so I jumped at the chance to go.
Our tour was given by Melanie Budge, the Development Office Manager at Hale Centre Theatre. I loved seeing behind the scenes at the theater, their scene shop is pretty amazing. They actually work with such complex scenery and props they have a separate off-site warehouse, they only keep pieces for the current show at the theater.
The Hale Centre Theatre actually has quite a small stage, but they make it work for their productions, by being able to move the stage up and down it segments or together.
They also bring many things in from the ceiling. They have really figured out how to make their space work for them.
My favorite area of the tour was the costume shop. Look at all that thread. I think that might be heaven.
This is a list of the shows for the rest of the year on the right and the shows for next year on the left. I am really excited about Brigadoon, now if I could just get my husband excited about Brigadoon, that would be great.
While we were there, we saw 9 to 5 The Musical. You have probably seen the movie with Dolly Parton, but the musical was absolutely hysterical. I laughed through the entire show and the sets were incredible. They used an actual truck, a dragon and of course some typical office furniture.

I have been to a lot of community theater in my life, and it all usually feels like community theater. Hale Centre Theatre is community theater done right.
Wasn't that fun to get a 'behind the scenes' look! I've done that myself, and it was fascinating. Like you, the costume department was my very favorite. Glad you had a good time.
How fun! I love Hale Center Theater, and the one in West Valley is way nicer than the one in Orem. They still do great shows, but I saw Phantom at the one in West Valley, and the complex stage movement totally made the show. So cool!
