Homemade Natural Gummy Bears

If there is one things my kids love, it is Gummy Bears. They can eat an entire bag in one sitting if I let them. Between their grandparents and aunts and uncles, they already have too much sugar in their diet to be offering them more, but oh how they love gummy bears. I have often wanted to create my own version of their favorite treat, but every version I have ever tried is still full of sugar. When I came across Pichuberry Puree, I knew this was the perfect way to combine a super food and their favorite treat into a snack we could both agree on.  These Homemade Natural Gummy Bears are absolutely delicious and the perfect texture.

The Pichuberry is an incredible super food that is native to the highlands of Peru. They are an incredible way to sneak extra vitamins into your diet because they are  good source of vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin P, and the B-complex vitamins B1, B6, and B12. The Pichuberry can be used just like any other berry, top your cereal, or yogurt with it. Add it to a smoothie or make amazing and natural gummy bears with it.

By eating only 3 ounces of this power fruit, you’ll meet 37 percent of your daily required vitamin A, 13 percent of your required niacin, 18 percent of your recommended vitamin C, and 39 percent of your vitamin D requirement. (Percent daily values are based on a 2,000-calorie diet.) Pichuberries also have a high content of phenolic compounds, which are a natural antioxidant.  They are literally the perfect fruit to make these gummy bears with. The best part? With Pichuberry, the Pichuberries come in a frozen puree, making them incredibly easy to incorporate into any recipe, especially these gummy bears! I love the natural color from the Pichuberries too!

Homemade Natural Gummy Bears

You will need:

  • 1 Package Pichuberry Frozen Puree (I found Pichuberry Puree at my local Walmart in the frozen berry section.)
  • 3 TBS Water
  • 2TBS Honey
  • 2 TBS Gelatin
  • Gummy Bear Mold and Eye Dropper

Add the honey and the water to a blender.

Break up the frozen Pichuberry Puree by running the small package under warm water for a couple of minutes. Pour the Pichuberry Puree into the blender with the honey and water and pulse until smooth.

Pour the puree mixture into a sauce pan and warm it over medium heat, add the gelatin a teaspoon at time, whisking it into the puree. When the gelatin is dissolved remove the gummy mix from the heat.  *Note- Don’t let the mixture boil.

Use the eye dropper to take small amounts of the mixture and add it to the gummy bear molds. This mixture was enough to fill two of these molds.

Place the molds on a tray and place them in the fridge for about 20 minutes or until they are set. Pop the gummy bears out and they are ready to eat right away!

Oh really, …now this is something my son would get excited about. He would love to make it himself and I would probably let him.

Love this idea. My kids love gummy bears, I think it’s better to make our own, using less sugar and only all natural ingredients.
